Direction Determines Fate

This poem can be read either bottom to top, or top to bottom, depending on which outcome you prefer.

Our tiny ship, being pulled under!

Tendrils attempt to rend it asunder

An enormous serpent (a giant snek!)

Men, in disorder, stampede the deck

The spyglass falls, no longer aboard

The boat pulls away, quickly unmoored

The calm, the still – thoughts flown

Drifting, uncertain, our direction unknown

Men, in order, file on deck

The beautiful island, a distant speck!

Swiftly, our little boat changes course

Sandy beaches, and fresh water source
