Welcome to my photo page! In the past couple of years, it has become clear to me that if I wanted to be 100% certain to avoid using AI generated images in my book covers or marketing, and thus inadvertently taking someone else’s work, I would have to use my own photos. This wasn’t too concerning for me, because I have a lot of photos, but I know it’s more difficult for others. So, I’ve decided to share. Note: I am NOT a professional photographer. The quality of these images varies widely. The resolution should be sufficient for most images up to 8×10 inches, but if you want to blow it up to a full sized poster – it’s probably not going to be pretty (anything marked “LowRes” in the file name should only be used for social media. Those are mostly ~700 by 900 pixels). But I can confirm that they were all taken by an actual human (me or my sister)
What I’m providing:
Free license for photos that can be used for book covers, marketing, promotions, etc. All I ask is that you credit Refracted Creative. I own the rights to all of these photos, and I have done my best to remove any images of people from them. The person using the photos is ultimately responsible for double-checking that no identifiable images of people or copyrighted material are visible.
In summary:
What you can do with these photos:
– Download, modify, enhance, or otherwise edit in any way necessary for your project
– Use these photos for personal or commercial use, provided Refracted Creative is credited and the conditions below aren’t violated
What you can’t do with these photos:
– Use them in any way that is damaging to marginalized groups or promotes hate speech, including but not limited to promotion of far-right ideologies, Naziism, fascism, anti-LGBT+ sentiments, or war propaganda
– Use them to train AI without permission/compensation
– Claim my work as your own
Violation of these terms will lead to revocation of the license to use them.

Obviously, none of this is helpful if you need pictures of people. Not much I can do with that, unless you are looking for a suitable-for-work image of a middle-aged white woman, in which case maybe we can come to an agreement 🤣
